Logo Design
A logo is a graphic symbol used by businesses to create instant public recognition of their business or brand. A good logo should have the following basic charateristics:
- A logo should be memorable.
- A logo should be effective with and without color.
- A logo should be scalable, i.e. it should look good at a very small size or on a billboard
The logo design process
Many people see logo design as an art rather than a craft. In reality it requires a process and planning to get good results. Here are the steps in our design process.
- Design brief and research
- Sketching
- Design comps
- Presentation, client feedback, and revisions
- Final logo creation
At the end of the design process you'll own the copyright and you receive the logo in the following file formats: eps, pdf, ai, tiff, jpg, gif. These formats should enable you to use the logo in print pieces and on a website or PowerPoint presentation.
How much does a logo cost? We typically charge significantly more than some of the online "cheap logo" mills. However, publishing an exact price is not possible because it depends on the expectations and requirements of the client. After discussing your logo design requirements with you we can provide a quote for your project.
Business Card Design
First and foremost your business card should clearly show your contact details. Standard business card size should be used in most circumstances so that it fits into a business card holder or wallet. Breaking either of these two rules for the sake of creativity should only be done with careful consideration of the benefits of a non-standard design.
A good business card should have the following elements
- The size should be 2 inches x 3.5 inches.
- The layout can be either horizontal or vertical.
- 13 or 14 point paper with a gloss or matte finish.
- Your name and contact information should be easy to find.
- Professional offset printing and high quality digital printing sources available.
Although cheap business cards are certainly better than writing your name on a napkin, it often pays to get professional graphic design and professional printing for perhaps your most important and most used piece of business printing.

Letterhead and Envelopes
Letterhead and envelope design requires as much attention to detail as business card design. Often the three pieces are created at the same time as part of an identity package. Careful planning and consistent design of letterhead and envelopes are important parts of the overall business identity package.
We pay close attention to the following when designing stationery:
- Legibility
We'll make sure that the smallest type on your stationery, such as your business address and email, is clear and easy to read. - Simplicity
We strive for clarity and simplicity in our design work, to easily convey your business identity. - Usability
Will you be printing your letterhead on your office printer or will you have it printed professionally? We'll make sure we know how you'll use your stationery before the design process starts.
Good design has become a vital tool to help your business stand out and stay strong. Good website design isn’t just about the look and feel of your site, it’s also about how well your customers can interact with it and how well you communicate your message through it.
Your website is often your customers first interaction with your company, so the way it’s designed (the way it looks and operates) should be one of the highest priorities of your marketing plan.

Brochures
There are four basic categories of brochures. We can help you identify what's best for your business and assist you with the design and printing of the brochure.
- Leave-Behinds and Sales Support
These are the brochures you use during a meeting and leave behind after a meeting with a potential client. They should include a complete description of your products and may go into great detail about product specifications and pricing. - Point-of-Sale
This is the type of brochure you might find while standing in line at a business, or sitting in a waiting area. They typically feature some product or add-on that you might want to consider before you check-out or finalize your purchase. - Response Brochures
You'll use this type of brochure to send or give to someone who is close to making a purchase decision. It should list all of your selling points and have facts to help support their buying decision. - Direct Mail
You include this type of brochure with a direct mail package. It should introduce your company and provide photos and support to a direct mail letter. - Marketing Kit
This type of piece is often a custom or standard diecut folder that contains brochure components, business card slits for business card placement, sales sheets (slip sheets) and any other necessary pieces. All are organized into a custom packet that can mail in a catalog envelope or be left behind as a high end sales piece.
To be effective, your brochure will need illustrations and photos that show how your product works or what your service does. Artwork such as drawings, maps and graphs are beneficial to illustrate products and tables are often necessary to present specifications..
Brochures come in various sizes and folds. There are 2-panel folds, 3-panel folds and 4-panel folds. Paper weights range from 100 lb. stock to thicker 10 pt. cardstock, with either a gloss or matte finish.

Frequently asked questions about our print design process:
- How much does identity design cost?
- Do I own the copyright after the job is complete?
- How long will the project take to complete?
- How will I receive initial design ideas?
- What filetypes do you provide?
- Can you start right away?
- Do you research our competition and their identity designs?
- Can you help with printing?
- How do you accept payment?
How much does identity design cost?
Although it's an important question, it can’t be answered without specific details about your particular print or graphic design project. Our pricing varies depending upon a large number of factors. For instance, a small company might not require documentation for branding guidelines and style use, whereas a larger business with many people using the coprporate identity will require precise documentation.
Comparing the design profession to any other is by no means exact, but the, "How much for a logo or identity package?" question is kind of like asking a real estate agent, "How much does a house cost?" For an identity design it really comes down to how much research and time you will require to complete your design according to your expectations.
Do I own the copyright after the job is complete?
Our clients receive full copyright ownership of the completed artwork, along with original files suitable for use across a wide range of media.
How long will the project take to complete?
We'll come up with a schedule at the beginning of the project that will list deadlines such as when initial design comps are to be completed, and how long the revision process will take. Depending upon the complexity of the logo design project, it can take from a few weeks to around six months.
How will I receive initial design ideas?
We will post design ideas (comps) online for you to review. You'll be able to access the design comps on a web page, so others on your team may review them at any time. As revisions are made they will be posted on the same page with a revision date so that the evolution of project can be tracked.
What file types do you provide?
Your logo will be in vector format, which means it can be scaled to any size necessary without loss of quality, from a billboard to a tiny web icon. We can supply almost any digital file type you might require (eps, pdf, ai, tiff, jpg, gif).
Can you start right away?
It’s possible, but we need to pay close attention to our current clients and their ongoing projects. Taking on too much work at once will adversely affect our current clients. Please contact us to determine a timeframe for your project.
Do you research our competition and their identity designs?
Evaluating your competition is a necessary part of the process, and should be expected from any graphic designer. We research client competitors for every project, but if you choose not to have this research documented, it can save you money.
Can you help with printing?
Yes we can help you get your job printed professionally. We have extensive experience dealing with commercial printers, and we're more than happy to offer advice or help get the project printed. Our hourly rates apply.
How do you accept payment?
We accept credit cards or business checks.
